JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a mid-level Staff Accountant that will be responsible for executing day-to-day accountant tasks to support, and work in conjunction with the Controller in telling the “accounting story” for the affiliate, from the accounting phase through to the financial statements. This includes, but is not limited to; having ownership responsibility of certain monthly accounting tasks, i.e., general ledger entries, reconciliation and state filings according to established policies and procedures in an efficient, timely and accurate manner. Success in this role is defined by being able to be “transactional” and have the full understanding of “why” and “how” each transaction is important to the overall financial picture of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; including reconciling accounts
  • Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifying information
  • Assist with pulling documents for the annual audit or grant audits
  • Performs monthly activities for grant accounting
  • Assist with organizing and updating financial records
  • Posting monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals
  • Assist with preparing and/or creating financial analysis as needed
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
  • Completes various state filings as assigned
  • Assist and participate in the budgeting process each fiscal year
  • Assist in supporting AP/AR tasks as needed
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
  • Work on special projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree (Required) or Master’s (Preferred) in Accounting, Finance or related field. Prior non-profit account experience is a plus

EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years of general accounting experience, utilizing fully integrated accounting and general ledger software systems

  • Ability to prepare and carry boxes containing prior years paid invoices that are designated for record retention
