Memphis Field Organizer

STATUS: $20/hourly, 30 hours

ABOUT TENNESSEE ADVOCATES FOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Tennessee Advocates for Planned Parenthood (TAPP) TAPP is a 501(c)(4) organization whose mission is to encourage and protect informed individual choice regarding reproductive health care; to advocate public policies that guarantee the right to choice and full and nondiscriminatory access to reproductive health care; and to foster and preserve a social and political climate favorable to the exercise of reproductive care.

The Position:

TAPP is strengthening our statewide advocacy base to protect our mission and to create a sustainable voice for reproductive and sexual health in the context of a progressive movement for social justice. This community building effort and statewide advocacy will garner statewide attention and provide an exciting opportunity for professional distinction.

The Field Organizer will assist our statewide organizing efforts by deepening our presence in Memphis.

I. The responsibilities of the Field Organizer include:

  • Managing supporters in Memphis to get involved with Planned Parenthood through advocacy-related opportunities, such as Get Out The Vote phone banks and door-to-door canvassing.

  • Tracking volunteer activities in the Voter Activation Network database;

  • Helping to build Planned Parenthood's supporter list by collecting supporter and volunteer information at community events;

  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for phone banking, voter registration and canvassing events.

  • Must be able to hit metric goals on a weekly and quarterly basis and work well under pressure.

  • Build up a strong volunteer base and understanding of the area for Get Out the Vote (GOTV)

  • Plan and recruit for weekly volunteer events; and

  • Other duties as assigned.

II. In the course of providing these services, the Field Organizer will:

  • Communicate on a weekly basis in-person or by telephone with the Affiliate Data Manager and Campaign Organizer;

  • Provide weekly summary of activities via email (Google doc check-in) with the Affiliate Data Manager and Campaign Organizer and TAPP Director;

  • Submit Effort Report due before the end of each month on c3 and c4 activities.

  • Abide by confidentiality policies that govern staff and volunteers of TAPP. In addition, the Field Organizer agrees to keep confidential any and all non-public information about PPTNM that is revealed while conducting the activities covered by this agreement.

Job Requirements:

  • Prior organizing experience preferred (paid, volunteer, or internship)

  • A background in VoteBuilder and MiniVan.

  • Full availability for the last two months before the Election is required.

  • Must be a strong trainer.

  • Ability to work long and unusual hours (weekends and some nights, especially leading up to the election).

  • Detail oriented and comfortable to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with a team

  • Access to a reliable vehicle. Travel is required.

  • Positive attitude and a commitment and passion to the cause of pro-reproductive health candidates all across Tennessee.

Compensation: hourly $20/hour: varies per month/ Expected hours: varies.
