JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for clinical service delivery according to Planned Parenthood Federation of America and affiliate guidelines and federal and state regulations. Clinical services include all client care, counseling, and screening laboratory test results. Respond to phone calls on the on-call line, conduct patient follow-up, and supervise health care assistants during client care activities. Work with Lead Clinician and Medical Director to implement new protocols and programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Obtain a complete health history, including obstetric, gynecologic, contraceptive, medical, surgical, family health, and psychosocial information from clients and record findings accurately and succinctly.
- Perform physical examinations with special emphasis on the reproductive system, including breast examination, pelvic examination, cancer screening tests, diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections, and other types of more specialized procedures as may be indicated by medical policy.
- Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic studies as indicated and permitted by medical protocols.
- Perform duties as assigned in abortion clinic as needed. Serve as on-call nurse to provide emergency care by responding to after hour calls.
- Perform Ultrasounds per the affiliate’s medical standards and guidelines. The duties include:
- Complete the ARMS ACCME-accredited training, “Ultrasound in Abortion Care” OR pass the advanced placement test on the CAL/ARMS CD OR demonstrate completion of an equivalent ACCME-accredited training.
- Complete the ARMS web-based proficiency exam.
- Recognize and treat minor deviations from the normal, using prescribed protocols and consulting with the Lead Clinician and/or Medical Director as needed.
- Provide relevant health instruction to include family planning, nutrition, sexual counseling and principles of health promotion and maintenance.
- In cooperation with the Lead Clinician and Medical Director, ensure proper training of health care assistants and nurses. Supports the implementation of new protocols and programs. Play a leadership role in problem identification and problem solving.
- Supervise health care assistants when engaged in client care services. Assist in coaching of health care assistants. Enforce policies put into place for efficiency, safety, and quality.
- Collaborate with the health team and other community agencies and resources to ensure that all patients receive the care and assistance they need.
- Demonstrate a positive outlook, jump in to solve problems, and participate in the facilitation of efficient patient flow. Exhibit to co-workers and patients a commitment to the mission, goals, and ideals of the affiliate.
- Participate in the Quality Risk Management Program by completing occurrence reports.
- Initiate problem solving to ensure smooth health center flow.
- Accept individual and joint responsibility for and participate in health center efforts to achieve family planning visits of one hour or less, appointment show rates of 70% or higher, year-to-year family planning client retention of 60% or more, and attainment of annual affiliate goals in revenue, expenses, and margin.
- Participate in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity of an optimum patient quotient (PQ) of 6 medical visits per hour with a minimum average of 4*

Specific Duties
- Obtains a general health history, performs a general screening physical examination, and obtains and/or interprets appropriate diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests.
- Provides general health supervision, health maintenance, education, and counseling to women during the life cycle.
- Recognizes common non-gynecological medical problems and other deviations from normal and provides management or referrals as appropriate.
- Obtains a gynecological history, performs a gynecological examination, and obtains diagnostic studies and laboratory tests relevant to gynecology.
- Recognizes gynecological deviations from normal, formulates a diagnosis in collaboration with a physician, and provides education and management, or refers when appropriate.
- Provides education and appropriate management for women and men in need of reproductive related services, including fertility control, infertility, and sexually transmitted infections.
- Obtains an obstetric history and interprets appropriate diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests relevant to obstetrics.
- Interprets scientific studies based on knowledge of basic research principles.
- Recognizes ethical, legal, and professional issues inherent in providing care to women throughout the life cycle.
- Provide care to patients within PPTNM MS&G’s, all applicable laws and regulations.
- Attend staff meetings and affiliate training.
- Assist physician in surgical clinic (i.e. recovery, sedation, surgery room, POC, etc.) when needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelors of Science and Masters in Nursing.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum one year experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred, but not required
Other requirements:
- Current Tennessee Nursing License
- Current National Certification as Nurse Practitioner
- CPR Certification
- ACLS certification
